Brentford Area Guide

If you want riverside living without the eye-watering prices, then up-and-coming Brentford – like its football team The Bees – is a real contender. Period houses have been complemented in recent years by terrific new apartments along the water’s edge. And you’ll be in good company, Syon House has been the London home to the Dukes of Northumberland for over 400 years.

The heroic rise of Brentford FC (The Bees) to the Premier League in 2021 has brought renewed pride and prosperity to the area, and the transformation in recent years has been remarkable. The cultural hub remains the Watermans Art Centre – built on the site of the old gas works – providing independent cinema, children’s theatre, cabaret, dance, music, talks and creative workshops since 1979.

It’s a resurgence that has been long overdue – the area has a rich history. Immerse yourself in Brentford’s industrial past with a visit to the London Museum of Water and Steam, or head to the impressively grand Syon Park, House and Gardens. Built in the sixteenth century, history meets culture here, with live orchestras playing film scores by candlelight, and art exhibitions throughout the year. And the river views are truly breathtaking.
